RADAR (Responding Appropriately to Drug and Alcohol Referrals)

Responding Appropriately to Drug and Alcohol Referral or RADAR is extremely important here at the Greene County Juvenile Office. Therefore we have designed and implemented programming and response to these critical issues at each level of service at the Greene County Juvenile Office.

Our purpose is to serve youth in the best way possible to prevent use and dependency on illegal substances including drugs and alcohol. This is done through treatment partnerships, services, supervision and programming.

MISSION: Equipping and Empowering Youth for Positive Change

How Greene County is "Responding Appropriately to Drug and Alcohol Referrals"

Intake - Completion of Social History, Missouri Risk and Needs assessment, and MAYSI-2 provide Deputy Juvenile Officers with information necessary to make informed decisions about programs and treatment that will meet the needs of each youth.

Informal Services - Previously administered MAYSI-2 and Missouri Risk and Needs Assessments are available for review and through the interview process youth are placed in programs and services that will meet their substance abuse needs. In addition to programs and services the youth is involved in, they will receive regular urinalysis testing as part of supervision.

Detention - Upon admission to detention, youth are given a substance abuse screening to address their health needs. Further more several programming components target substance abuse awareness and prevention.

Formal - Youth placed on formal probation on a petition related to substance abuse issues will automatically be considered for placement in formal RADAR services. Additionally, urinalysis testing, and treatment interventions could demonstrate a need for more intensive services and result in the referral for formal RADAR services.

Greene County Youth Academy (GCYA) - Youth placed at the GCYA participate in regular programming to educate and prevent against substance abuse. Additionally urinalysis testing, appropriate treatment interventions and formal RADAR services are utilized for youth that demonstrate the need.
