Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI)
Greene County is involved in the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI). JDAI is a program
developed by the Annie E. Casey Foundation in 1992 with the purpose of keeping youth in their communities
rather than in secure detention. Research has shown that when youth are placed in detention, they have a
higher likelihood of being locked up as adults. Secure detention is also more costly, requires more
resources, and alienates youth from their families.
