Youth Art Work

Springfield Public Schools and grant funding from the Missouri Department of Public Safety make it possible for the youth in juvenile detention to have art class two times per week. The visual arts provide our youth with an opportunity to express themselves as they acquire knowledge from their art teachers. The Search Institute has identified creative activities as a constructive use of time which is a protective factor that enables young people to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. Creative activities include music, theater, and writing. Promotion and display of the art from our talented youth completes the creative cycle. This page is dedicated to display artwork, poetry, and prose produced by youth while detained at the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center.
