Application for Greene County Board Appointment


Board of Equalization

  • Hears cases of appeal or complaint arising from real property assessments
  • Authority to adjust and equalize the assessed values appearing on the assessment rolls
  • Three members appointed by Greene County Commission and three by City of Springfield
  • Three year term
  • Applicant must be a tax-paying property owner and a resident of the county five years prior to appointment
  • Meetings held as needed

Planning Board

  • Holds public hearings on planning and zoning matters within the county
  • Six members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Appointees are paid a nominal monthly attendance fee
  • Three year term
  • Applicant must be a resident of the unincorporated area of Greene County
  • Study session at 6:30 p.m., third Tuesday of each month followed by a public hearing at 7:00 p. m.; also, a study session held Thursday morning prior to the third Tuesday public hearing

Historic Sites Board

  • Historic Sites Board is an advisory board for the identification, protection, retention, and preservation of historical sites in Greene County
  • 12 members recommended by the Historic Sites Board and appointed by the Greene County Commission
  • Three year term
  • Applicant must be interested in historical site identification, protection, retention, and preservation in Greene County
  • Meets at 4:00 second Monday each month

Industrial Development Authority Board

  • Promotes industrial, commercial, agricultural, and manufacturing development thereby creating jobs in Greene County
  • Five members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Six year term
  • Meetings held as needed

Board for Developmentally Disabled

  • Service provided for developmentally disabled citizens in Greene County through public and private agencies
  • Nine members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Three year term
  • Two members shall be related by blood or marriage within third degree to a handicapped person. Seven of the nine members must be residents of county
  • Tax levy $0.05 per $100 of assessed valuation; board approves expenditure of funds
  • Meets at 4:00 third Thursday each month

Domestic Violence Shelter Board

  • Administers the allocation and distribution of funds, in accordance with state law, to shelters for victims of domestic violence
  • Nine members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Applicant needs no specific qualifications
  • Three year term
  • Funded by fees on marriage licenses, divorce decrees, and county or municipal ordinance violations. Fees are deposited in special account with county treasurer
  • Meetings held as needed

Springfield-Greene County Library Board

  • Makes and adopts bylaws, rules, and regulations for the library district
  • Four members appointed by Greene County Commission and five by City of Springfield
  • Three year term
  • Appointees cannot be related to another trustee of the board
  • Funded by 254 tax levy
  • Meets 3:00 third Tuesday each month

Springfield-Greene County Environmental Advisory Board

  • Advises the city and county on matters which may affect the environment
  • Six members appointed by Greene County Commission and six appointed by City of Springfield
  • Applicant must be a Greene County resident
  • Three year term
  • Meetings held as required

911 Telephone Advisory Board

  • Oversees the implementation of an Enhanced 911 Telephone System
  • Nine members appointed by Greene County Commission representing County Sheriff, Springfield Police, City of Springfield, Greene County Commission, Springfield Fire Department, Greene County fire entities, Greene County municipalities, business, and one member at large
  • Three year term
  • Meetings held 3:00 p.m. third Wednesday each month

Public Building Corporation

  • A not-for-profit corporation to establish facilities for the purpose of promoting community growth
  • Five members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Six year term
  • Applicant must reside in Greene County
  • Meetings held as needed

Senior Citizens' Services Fund Board

  • Contracts with providers of services for persons sixty (60) years of age and older in Greene County and oversees the contracting agencies in regard to compliance with the terms of the contracts awarded
  • Seven members appointed by Greene County Commission
  • Four year term
  • Tax levy $0.05 per $100 of assessed valuation; board approves expenditure of funds
  • Meets at 9:00 second and fourth Monday each month
